What types of home help can you get?

Home Help (or Domestic Assistance) is the usual household tasks that you may be struggling to complete unaided such as doing your washing and hanging it out, ironing shirts, vacuuming or mopping the floors, doing the dishes, dusting, preparing meals and essential shopping.

Accessing the Service

You may be referred by your general practitioner (G.P.) a Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) agency, through the hospital system or through ACC.

If you have a Community Services card or a High User card and have been assessed as having a need for assistance, you may get the service through public funding. If you have been discharged from hospital, then for a period of up to six months you may be eligible for public funding.

ACC will generally fund assistance for up to six weeks when you have been assessed as having a need of support following an injury.

You may also pay personally for any serve not available through other funding sources.
